THE AWAKENING BY STOPGAP DANCE COMPANY
Plus: Phoenix Stars perform a sign-language dance piece at 2pm
Chris Pavia, a dancer/choreographer with Downs Syndrome, was commissioned to make this 20-minute outdoor dance piece for national and international touring. As an artist, Chris is interested in exploring the anxiety of being stranded. He associates this anxiety with his worst nightmare, which gives his choreography hypnotic and dreamy qualities. Through his work, he is telling us that ‘we might be able to get out of this bad dream if we could just wake up’.
The Phoenix Stars, a local dance group including children with English as a second language, children with special educational needs, will perform a piece with sign, dance and song.
